Red Mango Yogurt (Restaurant Review)

I’ve passed the Red Mango yogurt shop 100 times in my local mall and never thought to stop in or pay much attention. (I guess that means I have to admit that I’ve BEEN to the mall 100 times!) This morning when one of their press releases came to my attention with the words “Gluten Free” in it, I decided it was a great day for a field trip! And boy, was that ever a great decision.
The press release, found here, states that “Red Mango, the fastest growing retailer of all-natural nonfat frozen yogurt, opened its first U.S. store in July 2007 in Los Angeles and has since celebrated more than 60 store openings across Arizona, California, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Minnesota, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wisconsin.” (Fun fact – the one near me is owned by a 2007 winner of the reality show, Survivor, and is the product of his winnings on the show.)
Headquartered in Dallas, Red Mango serves uniquely delicious frozen yogurt that is all-natural, nonfat, gluten-free and packed with beneficial live and active probiotic cultures. The purpose of their press release from this morning was to announce the addition of parfaits and smoothies to their product offering that can serve as quick lunch options for the “health conscious lunch buyer,” which are about 300 calories, made with fresh fruit, and sweetened with Stevia. Their yogurts are certified Gluten Free, Organic, and Kosher.
The stores are bright, well-lit and clean (I’ve seen a few), and the welcoming words, “Organic, All-Natural and Gluten-Free,” are painted largely across the wall above the menu. After picking out one of the six flavors of the day, you choose your own toppings from the bar – either the fruit side: 9 kinds of finely chopped fresh fruit, or 9 kinds of chips and cereal: yogurt chips, white chocolate, dark chocolate, Fruity Pebbles, Cocoa Pebbles, etc. Have some from both sides if you can’t decide! They did have a topping or two that are not gluten free, such as Capt’N Crunch Cereal (which is wheat free), and graham crackers.
I tried the POM Pomegranate flavor with just about every kind of fruit imaginable that would fit on top, as well as the dark chocolate flavor with mini Reese’s Peanut Butter Chips, mini Ghiradelli Dark Chocolate Chips, and Cocoa Pebbles on top (Not specifically GF toppings, but no gluten ingredients found in them.) Yum!!! I loved them both, but I’ll choose chocolate over fruit if I have to any day of the week. See the photo above for my chocolate creation!
Besides Smoothies, Parfaits, and Yogurts, Red Mango also serves Probiotic Iced Teas sweetened with natural cane sugar.

i used Stevia extract as a sugar substitute because i am diabetic. Stevia is really sweeter than sucrose.`’~
we have a small stevia garden at home and the dried leaves are very very sweet’*`
the great thing about stevia is that it is also tooth friendly like xylitol sweeteners`-:
