In-N-Out Burger

In-N-Out Burger, a west coast hamburger chain known for its tasty fresh burgers, fries and shakes has been a California landmark for 60 years. They are slowly opening restaurants in other states – now in Nevada, Utah and Arizona. I’ve noticed their fairly new strategy of locating just outside California airports and I know many people that stop at In-N-Out Burger as soon as they land from another state. I do the same thing with Chick-fil-a when I land in Texas!

There is a lot of differing information online about whether or not the special sauce is gluten free, so before writing this review, I decided to call the company. I’m happy to report that according to Brian at corporate headquarters, there is no gluten in the special sauce.

In fact, there is NOTHING with gluten in the whole place, except for the bun. This is one place that you can eat the fries and feel pretty confident that they are safe. There is nothing fried on the menu except the fries.

Great, fresh burgers, hand-cut fries, and thick, icy shakes are all they have. Order the burger “protein style” and it comes wrapped in a giant lettuce leaf with all the fixin’s.

Facebook friend Tami von Rotz says, “Ask for a “Protein Style Special” which means they use a clean spatula to avoid cross-contamination.”

Just be careful because they warm the buns on the same griddle they make the hamburgers. If you ask them they will make your burger as far away from the buns as possible. In my experience it is hit or miss for me. Also if you are ordering food with someone who’s is not gluten free ask them to bag your order separate.

The only burgers I eat are my husbands.

I wish In ‘N Out would come here to Idaho. They are one of the few things I miss about California. Unlike other places where you have to eat the meat patty and toppings with a knife and fork, the protein style is wrapped up in lettuce and then paper so you can eat it like a bunned burger. Always so fresh and tasty.
