Amici’s East Coast Pizzeria

Don’t let the name fool you. This place is not on the East Coast, but brings a bit of East Coast pizza to the San Francisco Bay Area. Several places in the area offer gluten free pizza, but we’ve named this one the best! This New York Style Pizzeria began serving Gluten Free pizza, salads, and beer alongside its regular menu a couple of years ago.

Stillridingpizza.com provides the crust that is cooked to a crispy brown in Amici’s brick pizza ovens with a specially designed raised screen above the surface of the wheat pizzas. Each pizza is prepared with care in a “clean” area of the kitchen. The ingredients are stored in a separate area and the cutters for the GF pizza are not used on the wheat pizza crusts.

The tomato sauce is pure garlicky goodness and the vast selection of toppings are high quality and delicious. This is not just your typical pepperoni menu. They have more that 28 toppings, including exotic items such as roasted Yukon gold potatoes, caramelized onions, artichoke hearts, grilled chicken breast and much more. Our favorite is the spicy Italian sausage. You can also get pesto sauce or clam and garlic instead of the traditional tomato. They have vegan cheese you can substitute for the same price, but the crust does have egg in it.

The menu has twelve GF salads, so you definitely won’t feel limited, and you can even order a GF Redbridge Beer.

The crust ingredients: Bean flour, rice flour, tapioca flour, xanthan gum, salt, yeast, egg, cider, canola oil, calcium propionate.

ONE complaint – why can’t a place that serves gluten free pizza figure out how to twist the crust up and make a basket of bread sticks. I’ve never ever seen it done, but I did send an email to Still Riding Pizza. Maybe we’ll see it soon!

Free delivery with minimum order, take out or dine in one of the ultra cool locations. Out of the 12, only 7 make the gluten free menu: Dublin, Menlo Park, Mountain View, San Francisco, San Jose, San Raphael, Vacaville.

If you are ever in the Bay Area, don’t even try the gluten free pizza anywhere else!

I live in SF and do enjoy being able to eat pizza. It does the trick, but Amici’s is far from the best gluten pizza (the crust is paper thin). Picazzo’s in the Phoenix area has done a gluten-free pizzeria right! They have an extensive list of appetizers, the crust is a perfect thickness, and they even have the bread sticks that you wished for. Hands down the best I have found.
