Better Batter Chocolate Cake Mix, 18.25 oz., UPC 896439002094, Best Before January – March 2013

The recall expansion on May 3 includes the following #1 Gluten Free brand mixes which are packaged in white paper bags with the following markings on the packages:

#1 Gluten Free Chocolate Cake Mix, 5 lb., UPC 654367435304, Lot 33310-4

#1 Gluten Free White Cake Mix, 5 lb., UPC 654367435052, Lot 33310-4

The voluntary recall was initiated after it was discovered that the products containing milk were distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of the allergen milk. Subsequent investigation confirmed milk as a sub-ingredient of one of the ingredients in the bakery mixes. The omission in labeling was caused by a temporary breakdown in the company’s quality control processes.

Several allergic reactions have been reported in connection with this problem.

Consumers who have purchased Better Batter and #1 Gluten Free mixes listed above are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the manufacturer at 1-800-252-2220, Monday – Friday 8:00am – 4:30pm EDT.
