Texas Chicken Fried Steak and Cream Gravy (gluten free)
By: Nancy
This is the cut of meat Texas Roadhouse told me they use - they also slice it thin. My husband and I grew up in Texas and most of our family lives in the south, so we just have to make this now and then.

Ingredients
Steak:- 1 1/2 pounds sirloin steak, sliced about 1/4 - 1/2 thick You can have them cut it at the grocery store meat counter if you can't find thin sliced
- About 1 1/2 cups All purpose GF flour
- Dash of salt and pepper
- 1 cup milk
- Vegetable or Canola oil for frying
Gravy:- About 2 Tablespoons of oil left over from frying steak
- 2 GF Chicken bullion cubes
- Pepper to taste
- 2 cups milk
- 1/4 cup all purpose GF flour
- About 2 Tablespoons of oil left over from frying steak
- 2 GF Chicken bullion cubes
- Pepper to taste
- 2 cups milk
- 1/4 cup all purpose GF flour
Directions
- Pour oil in a frying pan to cover about 1/4 inch deep (you may need to add more as they are cooking to keep the bottom of the pan covered.) Preheat on medium heat.
- Pour 1 cup of milk in a bowl
- Mix about 1 1/2 cups of all purpose flour, salt and pepper to taste on a plate
- Dip the steak, one piece at a time in the milk, then into the flour mixture until well coated.
- Drop the coated steak pieces into the heated oil and cook until crispy and brown- about 10 minutes on the first side and 5 on the second side.) Use a wide spatula to turn or you may lose the coating. Add more oil if the bottom of the pan is not covered at all times
- When each piece is done, place them on a paper towel and turn the burner off while you mix the gravy.
- Drain off all the oil until only about 2 Tablespoons are left in the pan, some crispy coating pieces are good to leave in as well.
- Add 2 GF Chicken bullion cubes to the oil.
- Mix 2 cups milk with 1/4 cup of flour and a dash of pepper with a fork until it's not lumpy.
- Pour that mixture into the pan and turn it on low or medium low. Stir constantly until thickened.
