Kinnikinnick Announces Gluten Free Frozen Pie Crusts

Kinnikinnick has announced the launch of gluten free and ready-to-fill frozen pie crusts.

I tried this crust at Expo West gluten free trade show in February and it made my Top 10 New & Noteworthy Products List. I have been anxiously awaiting its arrival since then. I loved the taste and texture, and I also loved the delivery of this crust! Before my household went gluten free, I used to use those super convenient Pillsbury crusts that come 2 in a box and fold out into the pie pan. Here is that crust in gluten free form – just as tasty and convenient!

In addition to being gluten-free, the new pie shells are also free of dairy, tree nuts, peanuts and preservatives, making the product ideal for consumers with special dietary needs. The 100-calorie per serving pie shells can be used to deliciously mimic any traditional single crust or double crust pie, which you can’t do with the pie crusts that come in a foil pan, and is even difficult to pull off with a crumbly gluten free pie crust mix or recipe.

With a suggested retail price of $4.99, each package of Kinnikinnick Pie Crusts contains two 8” pie shells and will be available starting in September at health food and traditional grocery stores in both the United States and Canada. A variety of recipe ideas for working with the pie crust can be found on the recipes tab of the Kinnikinnick website,

Jerry Bigam, President & CEO of Kinnikinnick, knows that dietary restrictions can make satisfying simple cravings a challenge: “We hope that with our ready-to-fill crusts, baking gluten, dairy and nut-free is fun, delicious, and easy as pie.”

White Rice Flour, Non-hydrogenated Palm fruit or Canola Shortening, Whole Egg, Tapioca Starch, Water, Corn Starch, Potato Starch, Defatted Soy Flour, Salt, Xanthan Gum, Cellulose Gum, Guar Gum

Direct customers please note: Because pie crusts are sold frozen & uncooked, they will not be available through the Kinnikinnick home delivery program

Hi Debiann- Their announcement says that it will begin arriving in stores in September in the US and Canada. Here’s their store finder for stores that carry their products in general.

Check out the ingrediants in this product….free of tree nuts, dairy, peanuts and preservatives is a start and….It may be ok for Celiacs with no other allergies, but…..Kids that have wheat allergies need gluten free products too. Many of these kids also have many other allergies like SOY and Corn allergies, so they still can’t eat this product!! Mom and grandma has to make everything from scratch. I think the pizza crust also has SOY in it,
Sign me grandma with 3 grandkids with all different allergies

This is such good news! We have tried our hand at pie crust so many times, and have had so many failures. Most of the products we have gotten from Kinnikinnick have been great. So glad they are doing this. ~CS

A GF pumpkin pie – yummmmm!

  7. It is too bad that this crust has corn and soy in it. I was so excited to read about this new offering, but unfortunately I won’t be able to partake.

  8. Brandy says:

Ugh, soy? Back to square one ..

  9. Becky says:

Do you know what the calorie info is by chance? Thanks!

  10. Nancy says:

Hi Becky- There are 100 calories per serving, but if you have to ask . . . :)

  11. Mary LaRock says:

Still haven’t been able to find this at Nature’s Pharm

  12. Jenny says:

Darn SOY!!@!!! I love Kinnikinnick but I think I will boycott them until they take soy out because my family is so allergic!!!

  13. Diane Finocchiaro says:

HI live in Wilmington Delaware and cook gluten free when my son comes to visit. Where can I buy these frozen pie crusts? Thanks.

  14. Nancy says:

Hi Diana- Here is their store locator. They also sell their products on their site at the same link. I get them at Whole Foods.

  15. Cara says:

Great concept! But my gluten free child is allergic to soy. Perhaps they can reformulate it in the future without soy. I know one other manufacture makes a GF frozen pie shell without soy, as I bought it in 2011.

  16. Carol says:

Very exciting until you get to the soy – yet another disappointment…

  1. [...] Don’t be intimidated by making a gluten free pie crust! There are 3 pie crusts options that are my favorites. Kinnikinnick makes a new frozen fold out crust – just like the Pillsbury crust in the red box in the dairy case. Tastes flaky and great if you can find it. Here are the details. [...]
