Review: NOW Energy Bars from Phil Keoghan

I’m always looking for good bars to send to my young adult/college kids. They’re great for traveling, keeping in a back pack for quick energy while skiing, working, hiking, between classes – all those things that take special attention to navigate well when you’re gluten free.

I got a few samples in the mail recently of NOW bars by Phil Keoghan, of Amazing Race fame, and after tasting them and reading the label, I split them up into a couple of boxes and sent the rest off to my kids, knowing they’d be a hit.

White Chocolate Fruit & Nut – These bars are soft and chewy, but also crunchy and full of chunks of nuts, fruit, seeds, gluten free oats, corn flakes and puffed rice, and white chocolate chips, all held together with a just sweet enough honey mixture. Honeycomb with Chia & Raisins – These delicious bars are peanut and nut free and are full of chunks of fruit and seeds with a creamy honey base and gluten free oats, corn flakes and puffed rice. These soft and delicious gluten free strawberry Manuka Newtons are a healthier version of the old gluten-filled Newtons that I used to love. They taste like a cookie, but with a list of ingredients I’m much happier to eat! These include strawberry, honey, chia seeds, pear, pineapple, peach, apple, red cabbage extract (for natural color), cinnamon, gluten free oats, crown rice flour, sorghum flour among other good things.
