This new cookbook is written by Mom, Ellen, who is gluten and dairy intolerant and daughter, Molly, who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in her early twenties. Instead of giving up the food they love, they live by the motto, “When life gives you gluten intolerance, make gluten free bread.” This book focuses on gluten free and dairy free family friendly recipes. Many of the recipes are low carb, low calorie, and high fiber. Each recipe has the specific nutritional information spelled out for you as well.
When I received this cookbook in the mail, I proceeded with my usual “testing” methods on any new cookbook. I chose to make the Angel Food Cake with Berry Sauce since it is often that people ask for a good Angel Food Cake recipe on our Facebook page. I was a bit intimidated, since I’ve never made Angel Food Cake before, but the simple ingredients and step by step directions made it easy. This is not only a GREAT Angel Food Cake recipe, but according to my taste testers, “quite possibly the best angel food cake” they have ever eaten. I emailed the author before I even finished my first warm slice with warm berry sauce and asked her if she would consider giving you the recipe. Lucky for you, she agreed!

What else is in the book? This is not just another book with the basics, although the recipes included are not difficult to prepare. What I mean is that there are many ethnic recipes and some new ingredients that you may be unfamiliar with using in cooking, such as tomatillos, fish sauce and fresh ginger. Many recipes are even marked with a “Faster than take-out” icon. Many of the recipes are unusual and can really expand my repertoire. I’m really excited to get started on some of these interesting dishes!
